With the head office based in Windsor Ontario, the bridge commission would be modeled after the Halifax - Dartmouth Bridge Commission, based in Halifax Nova Scotia. The purpose of this organization is to build and maintain relationships with US Homeland Security, Canada Customs, City of Windsor, City of Detroit, State of Michigan, Province of Ontario and our customers.
This will require agreements with the State of Michigan, Province of Ontario, City of Detroit and the City of Windsor. We propose using the Ambassador Bridge for light vehicle traffic only, which will result in lower noise levels for the West Windsor merchants and residents, with the Howe Bridge being used for truck traffic only.
Surplus lands can be developed by Canada Lands, similar to the Garrison Woods development in Calgary, in consultation with existing residents. Old structures will be removed and landscaped until development proceeds.
Surplus lands on both the Windsor and Detroit sides of the border can be re-developed to create housing, data centers, using Renaissance Zones and a Foreign Trade Zone program. Attract out of state developers and investment to Detroit / Windsor (Motown Corridor).
Sponsor minor hockey in both the City of Windsor and the City of Detroit. In Windsor, the Windsor Junior Spitfires would be a potential sponsorship opportunity. In the City of Detroit, the Tier 1 AAA hockey would be of interest for sponsorship. This helps to develop grass roots support for the Bridge Commission, with the residents and families of Detroit and Windsor. Work with the local radio stations to give away tickets for tournaments, etc.
Sponsor the Detroit Auto Show and the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix. The car business drives the economies of both Windsor and Detroit.
With the new bridge being named after Canadian hockey player Gordie Howe, it would be beneficial to name the Ambassador Bridge after an American Citizen. We are proposing to re-name the Ambassador Bridge as the Father Michael McGivney Bridge. Father McGivney was born August 12, 1852, in Waterbury CT, and founded the Knights of Columbus, in New Haven, CT, to assist the widows and orphans of the times. Father McGivney died on August 14, 1890. He is well known across Canada and the USA, within the Knights of Columbus.
We hope to work with the Knights of Columbus Councils throughout Windsor and Detroit to help the less fortunate and those in need.
Living next to the bridge can cause issues with residents during peak periods. Community Outreach is important such that any issues can be resolved locally, without requiring escalation. Delighting our customers and local communities is also important as we work together based on the Principle of Mutual Benefit.
